Cosmópolis. Refiguring Urbanity
What does “urbanity” mean today? New ways for working, home making, buying and selling, occupying streets and neighborhoods, using technology, conceiving cosmopolitanism, ethnic identity, heritage or beauty, seem to defy well established ideas in our –so to speak- previous common sense. This international workshop focuses on contemporary practices and trends which are reworking -silently but deeply- contemporary city life. Ethnographies from Paris, London and Madrid will be discussed to stimulate our ethnographic imagination.
This workshop stems from the project Madrid Cosmópolis. Prácticas emergentes y procesos metropolitanos, financed by MINECO (CSO2012-33949) and conducted by the Urban Culture Study Group, Dept. Social and Cultural Anthropology, UNED.
